[...] The GH1 was released in 2009 and was one of the first DSLR’s to offer normal HD video. When canon cameras such as the 7D and 5D 11 came out with Full HD settings this blew nikon and lumix cameras out of the limelight. A year on a hack was developed by a dude called tester 13 in which it boosted the GH1′s HD filming to full HD. It also writes to the SD card in a better way to that of the 7D and 5D 11 and with its micro 4/3′s sensor it almost takes any lens! Donnacha use’s the GH1 with old canon FD lenses like the one seen in this picture, you can pick up many of these prime lenses for less to nothing on ebay so it really is a great investment. Read more about the debate here [...]

Thanks for the post. And thanks to Brutus I didn't dwell on the "can't rename a project" nonsense that brought me here.

Hi, I was wondering if you had any more info on that first lens the 1.4 25mm. Is it a 2/3" or 1/2"? I wanted to see if I could find it online and see if I could get away with using it instead of the Voglander f0.95. I'm sure there would be a great difference in quality, but I'm just looking for a good low light lens that gets good shallow dof. The reason that one interests me is because you didnt have to use the ETC mode. I recently purchased a Tamron 4-12mm F1.2 and I used the kipon adapter. It works great with the ETC mode on as a wide angle and macro lens. However I noticed there was a lack of shallow dof. I did research and discovered ETC mode increases the dof which is no good. I'm hoping that the f1.4 25mm you used would still retain it's shallow dof since you don't need ETC. Have you been using it at all since you made this post? Any examples up online? And if you have a link to where you found it on eBay that would be fantastic. Thanks!

I agree with both the author and with "chip," final cut X is very speedy for editing quickly things like Proof of Performances in advertising, or even cutting together a wedding video for a client. I use it for that and it works well. Of course, I would never use it for any projects that I actually care about, like the short film I'm working on (in FCP 7). It's just not that easy to work with unless you are doing a few simple things involving FCP and Motion. And while it's nice that Apple added some half-hearted XML and "roles" features, it's just not that fun to work with, simply because there are so many things it can't do. In my humble opinion, FCP X ends up being a time saver, but really does not allow any serious artist the tools to make a film as well cut as he or she wants it to be.

I also started to fall in love with fcpx, very fast and creative. Maybe I just rushed into it without understanding where all the files are stored, and how, but my system became slower and slower. Had to finish the project, so recut in fcp7....have to eat....but will return to fcpx..I like it...will like it more when bugs are ironed out...can you iron a bug???

You CAN rename projects in FCPX. The function is oddly hidden though. It just requires clicking on the little "wrench" icon in the info panel.
Thanks for the blog.

Good blog post. For long movies and collaboration FCPX is NOT the solution. But for what I do and teach it is the solution. I fought for 3 months not using it and finally I said for the web videos and short projects it is much more intuitive for me.

The last four videos I shot in FCPX and I loved every minute of it after hating it for 3 months. I guess it kind of grew on me, and now that I get paid for gigs like FCP 7. It's nice.

IS it very hard to do? I have an idea of how it might work, but it seems there is a large risk that it won't focus correctly.
